I spent most of my time in Nepal in guesthouses in the Himalayas as my partner and I made our way to Everest Base Camp. But when we returned to Kathmandu past midnight on a busy holiday weekend after an 18-hour bus ride, this place was a godsend:
The aluminum shutters were down when we approached this place, but we saw golden light shining beneath them and we were desperate. We knocked. The manager gave us an incredible price ($15 for three people) considering we had just woken him at 1am. Our room was spotless, our beds were comfortable, and we had our first hot showers in weeks. There’s a cool rooftop where you can hang your clothes out to dry and look down on the bustling tourist district of Thamel.
